Save the Earth
It’s decision time. Time to make the biggest choice ever in the history of the earcth. The choice is whether to save ourselves or let ourselves go.
The earliest civilsation might have been the Sumerians 5000BC who invented writing. Since then we’ve seen the rise and fall of numerous other civlisations, Egyptian, Roman, Greek, Mayan. And there’s no doubt we are seeing a great civlisation at its peak right now. In fact, we have got to a real pinnacle in many different ways.
Never have there been so many humans. Never has technology been so advanced. Never have people had so much information.
Civilsations can collapse or decline and information and technology can be lost. Such as plumbing. The Romans displayed plumbing, baths, etc and all was lost as barbarians ushered in the dark ages took over.
All civilisations are characterized by a high level of organization, aided by things like writing. People work together for a common good. Always subjugating their own wants and desires. How is this possible? No other animal has managed it to the extent humand have. Religions. Again and again, we see that the only enduring way of making people “love one another” and work together is by religion, since it controls from the inside out, not like legislation, which attempts to control from the outside.
But what makes a person join a religion? Always Need.
Why do civilisations suffer moral decay? Always too much ease. Plentiful resources. The loss of adaptability. And the loss of religions which become superfluous.
It’s accepted we are staring at the seemingly inevitable collapse of our civilization. Some say it’s OK, it’s the way of nature. But no, this time its different. This time we humans have a choice.
Never before has a species got to the point where every single individual has access to every bit of information. The Internet has changed the rulkes. Suddenly no one is ignorant of what’s ha[[eing or wht is needed to adapt our civilsation. We have the tools of instant communication. We have the power inherent in 6 billion sentient beings. We have the option of saving ourselves and saving the world.
Human’s have always been good when united against a common enemy. Normally that common enemy is another group of people. In this case it’s our own stupidity and the effects we’ve caused to our environment. We could easily overcome our adversary if we pooled our knowledge, expertise, and reseatablished the social prerogatives that we lost with the demise of religions. We must love one another again. Our spiritual health is the key to our salvation.
Now it’s time to unite. Then we can make the changes, and fast. Its not rocket science but it may initially appear to you that you will be making sacrifices. That’s a small way of thinking. Think in a big way and you’ll be making the largest creative contribution possible to mankind and the earth and every creature. Think in the way you were made to think. Use the large and complex brain you have been provided with. You are a massive force for good, not a puny and self-centred Pavlovian dog/stimulus-response unit/narcissistic reptilian response unit/insect.
What if we do? Happy futures for our children, a future of plenty, a future of knowledge and information, space travel, opening of new vistas for us.
And if we don’t?
Wars. Famine, Nuclear destruction. Desertification. Starvation. Suffering of every living thing. Hundreds, maybe thousands of years of Dark Ages.
L & G, make the choice.
If there is a general "antidote" to collapse, it would seem to be social cohesion, economic growth and adaptability.
